ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 1991ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಕೆ ಅವರು ಅರ್ಹ ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ (CA) ಆಗಿದ್ದು, ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ವಾಷಿಂಗ್ಟನ್ ಸ್ಟೇಟ್ ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ಆಫ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆನ್ಸಿಯಿಂದ ಮಾನ್ಯತೆ ಪಡೆದ ಸಿಪಿಎ (Certified Public Accountant - CPA) ಪರವಾನಗಿ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬಹುರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಅವುಗಳ ಸಹ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕಪರಿಶೋಧನೆ, ನಿಯಮಿತ ಹಣಕಾಸು ವರದಿಗಾರಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ಸಲಹಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ವಿಶಾಲ ಅನುಭವ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಅವರು ಭಾರತ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ವಿವಿಧ ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಚೇರಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಖೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ಟ್ಅಪ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಡಿಟ್ ಲೀಡ್ ಆಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಕ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ
ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಅವರು 1991ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಸರಗೋಡು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಪೆರ್ಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ಕುಂಟಿಕಾನ ದಾಮೋದರ ಭಟ್ ಅವರು ಕೃಷಿಕರಾಗಿದ್ದು, ತಾಯಿ ದಿವಂಗತ ಸರೋಜಾ ಕೆ ಅವರು ಗೃಹಿಣಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಬಾಲ್ಯದಿಂದಲೇ ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಅವರ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಕಾಳಜಿ ವಹಿಸಿ, ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಕನಸು ಕಾಣುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಿದವರು ಅವರ ತಾಯಿಯೇ.
ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಎಸ್ಎನ್ಎಚ್ಎಸ್ ಪೆರ್ಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ವಿಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಎಸ್ಎಸ್ಎಚ್ಎಸ್ಎಸ್ ಕಾಟುಕುಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿಯುಸಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆದರು. ಅವರು 95% ಅಂಕಗಳನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು.
ಅವರ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ, ಆಳ್ವಾಸ್ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಅಡಾಪ್ಷನ್ ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನವನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿ ಪದವಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಶುಲ್ಕ ಮತ್ತು ವಸತಿ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಒದಗಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಆಳ್ವಾಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪದವಿ ವ್ಯಾಸಂಗ ಮಾಡುವ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಅವರು ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಆಗುವ ಗುರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದರು.
ವೃತ್ತಿ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವನ ಪಯಣ
ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಅವರು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ಸ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ (ICAI) ನಿಗದಿಪಡಿಸಿದ ನಿಯಮಾನುಸಾರ ಸಿಎ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕಡ್ಡಾಯ ಆರ್ಟಿಕಲ್ಶಿಪ್ ತರಬೇತಿಯನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡರು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಜ್ಞಾನೋಬಾ ಅಂಡ್ ಭಟ್ – ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ಸ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಆರ್ಟಿಕಲ್ಶಿಪ್ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹುರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು, ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ರಿಯಲ್ ಎಸ್ಟೇಟ್ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು.
ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ, 2017ನೇ ವರ್ಷವು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಘಟ್ಟವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅವರು ಮೇಲಿನಪಂಜದ ಮನೆತನಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಸಿಎಸ್ ರವಿ ಕೇಶವ ಕೆಎಂ ಅವರನ್ನು ವಿವಾಹವಾದರು. ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ರವಿ ಅವರು ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಅವರಿಗೆ ನಿರಂತರ ಬೆಂಬಲ, ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
2018ರ ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಅವರು ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಪದವಿಯನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ಗಳಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಎನ್ಬಿಎಫ್ಸಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಸೇವೆಯ ಬಳಿಕ ಅವರು ಅಮೆರಿಕ ಮೂಲದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು.
ತಾಯ್ತನವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ವಿರಾಮ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಈ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಜಾಗತಿಕ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನ್ಯತೆ ಪಡೆದ ಸಿಪಿಎ (CPA) ಪದವಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆ ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿತು. ಈ ಹೊಸ ಗುರಿಯು ಅವರ ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಹೊಸ ದಿಕ್ಕನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು.
ಸಿಪಿಎ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಧನೆ
ಸೌಮ್ಯ ಅವರು ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದ ಸಹಾಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಿಪಿಎ ಕೋರ್ಸ್ಗೆ ನೋಂದಣಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ವಾಷಿಂಗ್ಟನ್ ಸ್ಟೇಟ್ ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ಆಫ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆನ್ಸಿಯ ನಿಯಮಾನುಸಾರ 10ನೇ ತರಗತಿ, ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಪಿಯುಸಿ, ಪದವಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ಅಕೌಂಟೆನ್ಸಿ ಅರ್ಹತೆಗಳ ದೃಢೀಕೃತ ಅಂಕಪಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ದಾಖಲಾತಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು.
ಎಲ್ಲ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅನುಮೋದನೆಯ ನಂತರ ಅವರು ಸಿಪಿಎ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಹಾಜರಾಗುವ ಅರ್ಹತೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು.
ಸಿಪಿಎ ವಿಶ್ವದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕಠಿಣ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಅರ್ಹತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೆಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಕನಿಷ್ಠ 75% ಅಂಕಗಳನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಪ್ರತಿ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ಶುಲ್ಕ ಸುಮಾರು 1,000 ರಿಂದ 1,200 ಅಮೆರಿಕನ್ ಡಾಲರ್ಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.

Sowmya K, born in December 1991, is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a licensed CPA holder from the Washington State Board of Accountancy, USA. She has extensive experience serving multinational corporations and their associate companies across audits, regular financial reporting, and complex advisory matters. She currently serves as Audit Lead at a reputed startup with offices and branches across multiple countries, including operations outside India.
Early Life and Education
Sowmya was born in 1991 in Perla, Kasaragod. Her father, Kuntikana Damodara Bhat, is a farmer by profession, while her late mother, Saroja K, was a homemaker who played a pivotal role in nurturing Sowmya's academic ambitions from a very young age.
Sowmya completed her 10th standard at SNHSS Perla, after which she pursued the commerce stream and went on to complete her 12th standard at SSHSS Katukukke College, achieving an outstanding score of 95% and earning the distinction of 2nd District Topper. She completed her undergraduate degree at the prestigious Alva's College entirely on a full scholarship awarded under the Alva's Management Adoption Scheme, which covered both tuition and hostel facilities throughout her graduation. It was during this period that she set her sights on becoming a Chartered Accountant.
Career and life journey
Sowmya pursued her CA studies alongside the mandatory articleship as prescribed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. She completed her articleship at the well-regarded Bengaluru-based firm Gnanoba and Bhat – Chartered Accountants, where she gained invaluable exposure working with multinational corporations, prominent listed companies, and leading real estate firms.
On the personal front, 2017 proved to be a significant milestone as she married CS Ravi Keshava KM, Melinapanja, who has been her steadfast pillar of support, encouraging and standing by her through every step of her professional journey ever since. In mid-2018, she successfully qualified as a Chartered Accountant — a testament to her dedication and hard work — and went on to join a leading NBFC in Bengaluru.
After a few rewarding years with the firm, she transitioned to a US-based organization, where she served for approximately a year before embracing a career break to welcome motherhood. It was during this period of quiet reflection that a new ambition took shape — the pursuit of the internationally acclaimed CPA designation, a goal that would once again define her relentless drive for excellence.
CPA Preparation and Achievement
Sowmya initiated her CPA course registration with the support of a coaching centre, navigating the meticulous documentation process required by the Washington State Board — which included attested copies of mark sheets from 10th standard, 2nd PUC, graduation, and her Chartered Accountancy credentials. Upon successful verification of all documents, she received her registration and eligibility approval to sit for the CPA examinations.
The CPA is widely regarded as one of the most rigorous professional certifications globally, with a minimum passing score of 75% per paper and an examination fee ranging from approximately $1,000 to $1,200 USD per paper. Demonstrating exceptional dedication and preparation, Sowmya cleared all four papers in her very first attempt — a remarkable achievement that reflects both her intellectual caliber and unwavering commitment to professional excellence.
